Although a Massachusetts woman attributed her sudden tummy bulge to weight gain due to menopause, her doctor’s mind-blowing announcement left her dumbfounded to say the least.
It all started when Judy Brown, 47, of Massachusetts, experienced unbearable abdominal cramps, and was rushed to Beverly Hospital by her husband, Jason, in November 2015.
“It was a little bit scary getting into the hospital thinking something was [sic] really bad was going on,” Judy told ABC News.
Judy thought the pain was due to a blockage or gallstone. Little did she expect the doctor would deliver a fairly unanticipated diagnosis.
“(The doctors said,) ‘It’s good news there’s no blockage, you are pregnant and you are going to have her now!’” Judy told WCVB.
The couple, married and childless for 22 years, never planned to have kids, but held the belief, “If it happens, it happens.’’ However, the chance of a pregnancy never crossed Judy’s mind, even though she noticed a tummy bulge.
Hence, Judy admitted it was “a little shock” for her to be told she was in labor, Salem News reported.
“To understand and take in that I was pregnant and was about to go into labor … it was very overwhelming,” she said.
Just one hour later, the couple welcomed a healthy baby girl weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces (approx. 4 kg), and measuring 20.5 inches long.
The proud parents named their only child—Carolyn Rose—after both of their mothers.
Though the arrival of Carolyn Rose may have been a surprise, this newest addition has given Jason “a new purpose in life.” And needless to say, he was in disbelief.
“I feel I’m still gonna wake up in the emergency room [and go] ‘hey, this was only a dream? What? Felt so real…,’” Jason told InsideEdition, while holding Carolyn Rose—who’s donning a pink-and-white onesie and a knit hat—in his arms.
Certainly, this “daddy’s little girl” is a blessing for the Brown family.
“I’m over the moon right now,” said Judy’s sister-in-law, Susan Ballentine.
Our warmest congratulations to the Browns on the birth of your sweet bundle of joy!
