The Great Firewall of China—an extensive system of internet censorship—has blocked Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, making the communist country the world’s worst abuser of internet freedom. However, President Trump didn’t plan to be restricted by the communist regime’s strict censorship rules on his two-day China trip, and continued to tweet as he pleased, in order to stay in touch with his countrymen.
“The president will tweet whatever he wants. That’s his way of communicating directly with the American people. Why not?” a senior White House official was quoted as saying by a pooled report. “I’m sure we’ve got the gear aboard this airplane to make it happen. But it is noteworthy that none of the major western platforms for social media are even allowed to operate in China,” said the official.
Trump set foot in China a day after he boldly declared Nov. 7 as a “National Day for the Victims of Communism.” And by Nov. 9, China’s “Great” Firewall proved it was no match for Trump’s tweets.
“Over the past century, communist totalitarian regimes around the world have killed more than 100 million people and subjected countless more to exploitation, violence and untold devastation,” reads the White House statement commemorating the victims of communism.
Despite what we’re shown of China, which is merely what the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) wants to display, there are still countless people suffering under communism. China is one of the most severe human rights abusers with its persecution of religious groups, such as Falun Gong, Christianity, Tibetan Buddhism, and others. One of the most brutal genocides ongoing in the world today is the CCP’s persecution of the spiritual meditation system known as Falun Gong.
Over the last 18 years, hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been sent to forced labor camps, tortured, and killed. The most heinous crimes of all, however, is that of forced organ harvesting from the innocent prisoners of faith, especially Falun Gong, Tibetan Buddhists, and Uyghurs.
The communist regime’s Great Firewall has blocked all channels of information pertaining to Falun Gong, keeping its citizens unaware about the fact that this meditation is warmly welcomed in almost every part of the world.
On the heels of the White House’s statement, which reads, “shine the light of liberty for all who yearn for a brighter, freer future,” Trump entered the Forbidden City. Still, it’s yet to be seen how long human rights will continue to be trampled in China.
